Partnering with The Friends of Scouting to Cultivate a Healthy Campus: Official Launch of the Healthy School Programme at S.K.H. Bishop Baker Secondary School

At S.K.H. Bishop Baker Secondary School, we are deeply committed to nurturing our students’ physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fostering their holistic personal growth. In an effort to help students develop positive lifestyle habits and strengthen their resolve to stay drug-free, our school has officially joined the Healthy School Programme (HSP) for the first time this academic year. Subsidised by the Beat Drugs Fund and implemented in close partnership with The Friends of Scouting, this initiative provides our students with enriching and inspiring growth experiences. While the programme includes a school-based testing component, the diverse array of experiential learning activities and preventative education remains our core focus in cultivating students' resilience and positive outlook on life.

Following an inaugural briefing assembly held on 2 September to introduce the programme's vision and upcoming initiatives to teachers and students, the very next day, 3 September, saw the rollout of our first major event—the Secondary 1 Adventure-based Camp. Taking place in the School Hall, incoming S1 students engaged wholeheartedly in a series of dynamic ice-breaking and team-building challenges guided by professional adventure instructors. Working closely together on the hall floor, students shared laughter, communicated openly, and formed supportive peer friendships, building tremendous confidence and camaraderie as they embarked on their secondary school journey.

Recognising the essential role emotional well-being plays amidst the challenges and transitions of secondary education, professional youth workers from The Friends of Scouting visited our classrooms on 25 September to conduct the Secondary 3 Emotional Care Activity—the "Self-Care Workshop". Through engaging interactive activities and guided reflections, our S3 students gained a deeper understanding of stress triggers and emotional needs, learning practical coping strategies to manage pressure and practise mindful self-care in their daily lives. The lively classroom participation provided students with meaningful opportunities to reflect, recharge, and cultivate mutual care for one another.

Nurturing a healthy, resilient, and caring generation requires continuous synergy among the school, families, and community partners. Looking ahead, our school will continue to collaborate closely with The Friends of Scouting to roll out a comprehensive series of health-promoting activities across all form levels, ensuring every Bakerian flourishes in an uplifting, supportive, and compassionate school environment.
