41st Speech Day
The 41st Speech Day of S.K.H. Bishop Baker Secondary School was successfully held on 23rd May, 2026. The school extends its deepest gratitude to the Guest of Honor, Mr. Tam Chun-kwok, BBS, JP, current Member of the Standing Committee of the All-China Youth Federation, Legislative Council Member of the HKSAR (New Territories North), Council Member of the University of Hong Kong, and alumnus of our school, as the guest of honour to deliver the address and confer the certificates to the graduates, witnessing the fruits of their years of hard work and achievements.
The ceremony commenced with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony. The Revd. Chan Wing-fung then led the opening prayer, followed by a scripture reading by School Manager Mr. Fok Yiu-chuen. Principal Ms. Ng Yau-mei Shirley expressed her profound gratitude in her welcoming speech to Mr. Tam, School Supervisor Mr. Daniel Lai, the School Managers, distinguished guests, and parents for attending. Principal Ng praised this cohort for their resilience when entering the school amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and encouraged them to bear in mind the maxim in the sprout of their life-long learning journey: ‘Persevere and bide your time.’ She then appreciated Mr. Tam for never forgetting his roots despite his outstanding career achievements. She shared excerpts from Mr. Tam's past student records, that he possessed ‘outstanding potential and a bright future.’ Today, Mr. Tam has perfectly fulfilled those expectations, standing as the pride of all teachers and students at the school, and the role model for graduates to dream big and continually break through their own limits.
Thereafter, Mr. Tam Chun-kwok extended his heartfelt congratulations to all graduating students and thanked teachers and parents for their dedicated nurturing. As an alumnus, he reminisced about his time at the school, emphasising that success goes far beyond a report card. It instead lies in the honesty, resilience, empathy, and responsibility cultivated during their education. He urged students to never undervalue their efforts, remember the school's teachings, and remain grateful to their teachers. He sincerely hoped students would “keep the nation in heart, base themselves in Hong Kong, and acquire global vision,” striving to become a new generation with vision, responsibility, and a deep love for both China and Hong Kong.
After certificate presentation, 6C students Yeung Alma and Lam Sum-yau, the representatives of graduates, delivered a Vote of Thanks on behalf of the graduates. Alma specifically thanked Principal Ng for providing abundant resources and a tranquil learning environment as they prepared for the HKDSE. She also expressed immense gratitude to the teachers, who offered handwritten cards of encouragement during moments of self-doubt and provided crucial guidance at life’s crossroads. Sum-yau spoke affectionately to describe the parents of the graduates as the ‘undying guiding lights’—their unconditional support was the greatest motivation that allowed the students to strive forward without worries. To conclude the speech, the representatives quoted from the Bible, Joshua 1:9, to encourage all graduates: ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;’ and promised to always remember the school motto, ‘Dat Deus Incrementum’ (明道日新), hoping that one day they too could become guiding lights to illuminate society and bring warmth to their families.
Following this, junior students presented a spectacular variety show, conveying their sincere blessings to their seniors. Law Hiu-ching from Class 2C and Lung Wing-sze from Class 6D captivated the audience with their recitations of the poems ‘Homework! Oh, Homework’ and ‘Mid-Term Break’. The string ensemble then performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’, carrying beautiful wishes for the graduates. The school choir delivered the finale, performing ‘Climb Higher’ and ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’, inspiring all graduates to reach new heights and pursue their dreams, while wishing them a bright life ahead.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the congregation stood to sing the school song. The Revd. Chan Wing-fung then delivered the benediction, praying to the Lord to forever accompany the graduates and guide their steps. The graduation ceremony concluded beautifully.
